CIVIL MARRIAGE - GODDING IN SOPOT

Godding and civil marriage go hand in hand! It’s a charming place in Sopot, perfect for wedding vows and some skating craziness on the dance floor! That is exactly what Monika and Kuba did for their civil marriage in Godding, though sans skates. They went with the kayak paddles from the SKK Marzkulc club, instead. The reason? They’re a crazy couple of kids joined by their shared passion; I learned that during their engagement session. You can see the effects on our instagram or at the end of this post.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR A CIVIL MARRIAGE?

The preparations for a church wedding and a civil marriage are essentially the same. Specifically, it all starts in the home of the bride and groom, which is where is my time to shine as the wedding photographer. I have the time to immortalize such details like the wedding dress, the bouquet, the vision the bride makes. Or to go out with the groom and his friends for a bit of traditional dancing, like the Polish Polonaise. During the preparations it is always good to be surrounded by your loved ones, your siblings, parents or the witnesses. You mustn’t forget about them!

THE FIRST LOOK AND A WEDDING SESSION

I know from experience that the First Look is a moment that will never come again. A moment when the groom can, for the first time, see his future wife in her wedding dress. It is very important for me, especially because in just a few minutes the couple would give their wedding vows. It’s made even more important as it’s the day of their civil marriage in Godding. That is why it is imperative for me to find the perfect location for such a meeting. This time for our First Look we chose the Godding restaurant by a pond, surrounded from all sides by a picturesque forest. Before the emotions have a chance to cool down, I whisk the couple away for a short wedding session. Why? Because they can’t take their eyes off of each other, and they are at my disposal to capture that. I love those five minutes.

CIVIL MARRIAGE IN GODDING

WiększośMost of you know that Sopot is a city where you can get a civil marriage not only in the Registry Office, but also in a charming place like the Godding Restaurant. Monika and Kuba went with that very option. They invited guests for a civil marriage ceremony, and they were met with quite the surprise – an espalier made out of kayak paddles! I went to many different weddings, like, for example, Magda i Piotr's, where I saw an espalier for the first time. The amount of guests made a huge impact – the more the merrier. When Kuba lead Monika through it for the first time, all their friends cheered, yelling “Again!” Kuba and Monika listened, and went for a second go, which was a relief for me. Their first walkthrough, for many different reasons, would not have made for a lovely photo.

WEDDING GROUP PHOTOS

The effect of group shots, as well as photos of people having fun at weddings, depends on the photographer. This is a time when we, the photographers, have to slow down a little and get our creativity to soar. After the wedding ceremony came the time for candid photos, which I think are the best. But how to take a group photo so it looks like straight from a report? Just be yourself!

After a few series of group shots, it’s time for the first dance and the fun. When the newlyweds come out onto the dance floor and the sun is setting, the light changes in the room. This is the moment when the photographer must decide whether to get their lamps out or perhaps to shoot with the light as is, or maybe even go for a different technique altogether. Many photographers are met with choices like these daily. I think that the most important thing for a photo report is to match the feel and the personality of the photos to the actual party.

A FEW SHOTS FROM THE ENGAGEMENT SESSION

SeAn engagement session is a very good opportunity to check out the photographer you’re thinking of hiring for your wedding or civil marriage or even for the reception in the Godding restaurant… But seriously, you can use photos from such a session for your invitation or letters of thanks to your parents, or maybe even frame them and hang them around the reception hall. The possibilities are many, and with time you’ll realise that this is just the start of your adventure with the photographer. Meetings such as those can result with a wall full of photos or shelves filled with photo albums brimming with memories. Perhaps later, even a family session. But that’s a story for a different post

PALACE WIERZBICZANY – A WEDDING IN GNIEWKOWO 1

PALACE WIERZBICZANY – A WEDDING IN GNIEWKOWO

Palace Wierzbiczany is a one of a kind place on the Polish wedding map. It is located quite close to Toruń and Inowrocław. This neo-renaissance palace is surrounded by a beautiful English-style park, which was created in 1845-46. But that’s enough of history, let’s get down to business! This time, the main theme is class. Only two words come to mind – poise and elegance. Nothing less in a place like this.

PREPARATIONS OF BRIDE AND GROOM – PALACE
WIERZBICZANY

It’s never the same thing with preparations. Often I am invited to Your homes, even Your family homes. Not this time, and the reason is simple. Both families were out-of-towners, thus the logical place for the preparations was the location of the wedding reception. Time was on our side, and I had plenty of time to shoot everything. First I met with Maciek, then I accompanied Kasia. This order was not accidental, by the way. Everything was thought out to the last minute detail. There was also a very special something that elicited a feeling of high-class as well as sentimental fondness, and not just in the older guests – the wedding couple arrived in a vintage Fiat 125p. Maciek’s pops used to drive a car just like this one.

FIRST LOOK IN THE GARDEN

This is where the real magic begins. It was one of my favorite moments of that day. The first look is a moment, when the bride and groom see each other for the first time in their wedding dress and suit. It’s a time when it’s just you two, alone for just a few last moments before you wed. You need not say much about it, really. You need to live it. I didn’t have to think long on the perfect place. This tree is straight from a fairy tale. It was not only a gorgeous composition, but the energy it had. It drew us in, as if by magic.

WEDDING CEREMONY IN GNIEWKOWO

I’ve never written about it before, but it is a truly beneficial thing to organise the wedding and the reception close to each other, of course if you are able to. There are a few advantages to this, but for You only one should be important – you don’t have to waste any time traveling from point A to point B. It’s always better to help yourselves out during such important days. Thankfully, most of
our couples think alike, including Kasia and Maciek. A similar logistics situation took place HERE. The Church of St. Nicholas and St. Constance in Gniewkowo is barely a couple minutes away from the palace. Below you see one of those ceremonies, where joy and positive energy could be felt with each step. The bride and groom were smiling throughout the entire ceremony. Their enthusiasm was contagious.

THE MOST IMPORTANT PHOTO OF A WEDDING DAY

Kasia and Maciej didn’t have any requests for me, as the trust they’ve bestowed upon me was endless. However, if you’d prefer to make your own ‘must have’ list, be my guest. Perhaps leaving the church is the most important moment of the entire day for You. All you have to do is let me know. I always say that I am here for YOU, not for myself. There is one piece of advice I’d give to
every newlywed couple out there. Enjoy this long-awaited day and live it as much as your heart can stand.

RECEPTION IN A HISTORIC PALACE

Was Palace Wierzbiczany the best choice ever for organizing a reception? The answer to this and other questions I will answer below. Keep scrolling, because now we’re starting the fun!

MINI-SESSION WITHIN THE RECEPTION

If you’re wondering, whether doing a mini-session is worth it, it absolutely is. Even if it were to last only a few minutes. I make sure that that time is for You and for You only. Kasia and Maciek agreed to everything, and yet they kept wanting more and more. A couple like that is a gift. The light was growing scarce, so we had to act fast. Without venturing too far, of course.

THE RECEPTION IN PALACE WIERZBICZANY

It’s party time. A big advantage to such intimate receptions is the possibility to talk with each loved one present. We put up a ‘chill zone’ in the garden, in which you could take a breath for a moment, sit down with your drink… The only thing I could do was enter the crowd and capture the reception my way. Before I knew it, it was time to pack my equipment and get a hug goodbye. The day had just flown by, and I felt accomplished and, dare I say, happy.

AN ENGAGEMENT SESSION – IS IT WORTH IT?

I forgot to add that in the very beginning of our acquaintance, we decided to organize an engagement session. Thanks to it, we managed to bond a little and see if we were on the same wave lengths. Look for yourselves! Aren’t those smiles just full of promise? Well… I will admit, Portuś, their loyal animal companion, does not look like his usual cheerful self on one of the photos below.
But rest assured – his spirit lifted very quickly :-).

A TENT WEDDING - DWÓR OLIWSKI 2

A TENT WEDDING - DWÓR OLIWSKI

A TENT WEDDING

The first time I met Marianne and Roy was on their wedding day in “Dwór Oliwski”, a hotel in Gdańsk. It was something I tried never to do, but alas. Still, this proved that even if you have zero knowledge about a couple, you can still create the most exquisite love story. During the entire day I focused on not only Marianne and Roy, but also on the rest of their four person family. It meant twice as much fun for me when shooting them, as I just love capturing family stories. I was a witness to their love, which came to “my” hometown, Gdańk, all the way from the west coast of Norway – the city of Alesund.

A HUMANIST WEDDING IN A GARDEN

Openness and trust warmed my heart throughout all of this perfect day. It was mostly thanks to Ania, who organized this gorgeous event. I’ve never before had the opportunity to shoot a real Norwegian wedding, so it was a treat in itself. Outdoor weddings have a certain charm to them, a charm few things can beat, especially when surrounded by such beautiful nature. It was a humanist ceremony, officiated by one of the wedding guests, a close family friend. The tears of joys ran freely, and the moving music in the background was not helping at all.

WEDDING IN “PAŁAC I FOLWARK GALINY” 3

WEDDING IN “PAŁAC I FOLWARK GALINY”

WEDDING IN “PAŁAC I FOLWARK GALINY”

When I found Pałac i Folwark Galiny on a map, I had no idea it would become one of my favorite places to have a photo shoot in, especially at that time of year. But not because it was a brilliant place right up my alley, but because of the honest, kind and loving people I found there. I felt like part of a family with them. At the very beginning I knew that I could not allow the couple to prepare inside. It would’ve been a sin. The weather was on our side, gorgeous for that time of year, and the surrounding nature was practically spoiling us with beauty. My idea was accepted on the spot. Their first meeting took place in the back of the garden – it was full of tenderness and Agnieszka’s misty eyes. Oh, how I adore this – that moment when the bride and groom see each other for the first time in their wedding attire. I could literally do it all day every day. Once again this was proof to me that I have the most beautiful job ever and I wouldn’t change it for the world!

A WEDDING IN GALINY

Something I have rarely seen in my career is when the newlyweds take a ride in a horse carriage. It’s a very interesting thing to do, and it certainly adds a bit of a country feel to the event. The wedding took place practically next door to the reception. The church was small and yellow, built in the XIV century in the Gothic style, and it charmed me with how warm it felt inside. Please notice the ‘shot’ of the bride and groom giving their vows. You don’t have to look too deeply to notice all those feelings I’ve mentioned before.

A MAZURY RECEPTION

The wedding had everything – there were always guests on the dance floor, and Kuba was delighted that he could touch the ceiling with ease. The band was rocking it non stop, so I had enough to fill my plate all evening, not a single boring moment! Mazury are brilliant, a perfect place to revisit often. If you are into this divine little spot, like me, check out a completely different post from a place nearby – A FAMILY SESSION IN MAZURY.

AN ELEGANT WEDDING – CEGIELNIA RZUCEWO 4

AN ELEGANT WEDDING – CEGIELNIA RZUCEWO

CEGIELNIA RZUCEWO

And once again, we’re in my favorite place in Poland. Right by the sea is the charming Cegielnia Rzucewo, decked out in lovely shades of lavender. Our followers know that we’ve posted a story that took place right there just recently, you can see it here: Elegant Wedding. But to the point – Natalia and Arek are the heroes of our modest little story. Beautiful, young, and most importantly, in love – those were my first impressions of them when we met face to face. And of course the Cegielnia. It didn’t take me long to say YES, let’s do this! I want to make it clear that this day is memorable not just because of Natalia and Arek’s love, but because of the deep love between a father and his daughter and son.

ST. BRIDGET'S CHURCH IN GDAŃSK

The ceremony took place in Gdańk, near Old Town in St. Bridget's Church. The church, built in the XIV century, is famous for its history as well as its amber altar (the biggest in the world). I was in awe when I saw it. The theme of the day was the aforementioned lavender – this color was everywhere. It was even the color of the six bridesmaids’ dresses, who by the way walked the bride and her father to the altar. There was laughter, tears, her brother’s singing and firm hand shakes.

A RUSTIC INTERIOR

Throughout the rest of the day, you will see the laughing faces of not only the Newlyweds, but also on a many of their kith and kin. Sometimes I regret that I finish work after 12 hours of shooting, because I believe I could capture many more interesting pictures, especially when the party lasts till dawn. But going home I was grinning ear to ear, thinking about their outside wedding, how it will look like, what clothes we will wear, etc. But that is a separate story. Stay tuned for next time!

RUSTIC WEDDING STORY 5

RUSTIC WEDDING STORY

RUSTIC WEDDING STORY

The next adventure I’ve decided to share with you is the story of Ala and Szymek. They are best described as original, free-spirited people and, very important, always smiling. We started traditionally with the preparations of the groom, which took place in his friend’s flat, in Gdańsk. Szymek’s companions were a merry group of gentlemen, and they made me feel an encompassing chillaxed mood in the air (even after I’d dropped my camera lens on the staircase!). I thought to myself “is this how the entire day will go?” and, to my delight, it did. All Saturday long I felt as if I’d won the lottery! Alice was accompanied by her best friend, who had kept her caring eye on everything, starting with dressing the bride and stopping only once the party was done.

A WEDDING IN SOPOT

The wedding ceremony took place in the Church of the Holy Spirit in Sopot. And here, once more, luck was on my side. I was gifted with the perfect little light coming through the small and stained- glass windows right onto the faces of the guests in the pews. You will see true love during the wedding vows, children playing with their elders, as well as a mother breast-feeding.

A WEDDING – GDAŃSK, KALINÓWKA

If you’ve ever wondered about where in Gdańsk, very near the city centre, you can organize a wedding in a peaceful location, full of green and summer light despite the buildings, I have found such a place. It is the Gdańsk Kalinówka. The atmosphere is rustic yet still matches its city location, the buffet is sweet, and the amount of details makes it obvious all the stops have been pulled out. The garden, for example, was a hit. Not only where the kids having a blast there, but most of the guests spent their time just talking and goofing off with the newlyweds. Excellent music and, to finish the night off, we had some drinks by a campfire. You can see all of that below:

WEDDING STORY – BORY TUCHOLSKIE 6

WEDDING STORY – BORY TUCHOLSKIE

Wedding story...before I post another photo shoot from 2017, I’d like to share with you a story that happened almost two years back, around the beginning of October 2016. It is quite special, because it was a destination wedding, which is always a treat. True, it wasn’t “far” from home (only around 100km), in Bory Tucholskie; I’ve been wanting to visit there for a long time. And even though we were in the south of the Kashubian region, I still felt right at home.

WEDDING STORY

The wedding took place in Rusy, and the reception was in the Gościniec hotel in Chojnice. My being there was due to Paula and Jan choosing me out of a huge slew of wedding photographers. My relationship with the couple was excellent from the very start, full of positivity and bravery. That in turn helped transform simple scenes into the engaging photos captured that day.

...A SPECIAL PLACE FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

Another fun aspect of this particular love story is the venue for the wedding session. Paula took me to the picturesque Młosino lake, which is quite close to Wiele. It is a special place for her family, as many years before Paula’s grandmother and her family lived there. Their house is located in the heart of the forest, several kilometers away from the nearest town. During the session, Paula took me on a walk along old paths, surrounded by the unique and touching views... but that’s enough from me. Enjoy the photos!

OUTDOOR WEDDING - OYCOWA ZAGRODA 7

OUTDOOR WEDDING - OYCOWA ZAGRODA

OUTDOOR WEDDING

Outdoor wedding...we posted the story of Magda and Piotr’s wedding on our “old” website, but this time we’re letting it shine in our site’s new look; we also have a short wedding session for you as an extra treat. I’ll start with a short explanation as to how I received the honor of attending such an important event. I met Magda at a wedding some time back, and we worked side by side to capture all the best moments of “our” newlyweds. Working together with this “cameraperson” was amazing and so efficient. We were never in each others’ way, instead we helped each other in capturing the images, each onto our own media. I immediately felt in awe of Magda – she had this way finding and capturing the love of the newlyweds, in a way I believe only a woman can. You can see the results of Magda and her father’s work on their webpage Photoyoung. During this impromptu teamwork, she told me she and Peter were getting married soon. As luck would have it, they were in the process of finding a photographer of their own – and that is how our adventure together started.

...maybe an open air wedding

Magdalena and Piotr chose a one of a kind scenario. The wedding ceremony took place outside in the “Oycowa Zagroda" Inn in Wielkie Gowino. It was the location of one of the most interesting weddings of last year – in 2016. This picturesque region bathed in the August sun had this way of relaxing you, bringing to mind an idyllic life, peaceful and with no rush to be felt. There was even a “fiddler on the roof” of our very own – the talented violinist Greg and DJ KABI – Krzysztof. The drinks were served by Revolution Bar, and I knew we had ourselves an excellent party. And with such favorable conditions, I knew this party would be one to remember...

Magda and Piotr, thank you so much for choosing us, “in re fotografia”. It was an honor to shoot such a marvelous event that was your Big Day, the biggest day of your life together!
